The most important new feature is the faster CPU.Įben Upton says that the Pi Zero 2 W has about 80 % of the Raspberry Pi 3B’s performance. * Uses the official Raspberry Pi micro USB charger So, what’s new, what’s different from Raspberry Pi Zero W? And why does it matter to me? TL DR Unless you want to do some hardware modification, there is no way around this.īoard plus micro USB*: 65mm x 65mm x 5.2mmīoard plus HDMI plugged in: 65 x 70mm x 5.2mm If your real-world use case requires you to plug in a HDMI cable, you can expect to double the width of the board.Īt minimum, you’ll have to consider the microUSB that will be supplying power to the board. Realistically, these dimensions for the Pi Zero 2 are only achievable if you’re not doing anything with it. Note: these figures do not include the micro SD card, which adds 2mm to the length of the board (65mm -> 67mm) Raspberry Pi Zero 2 dimensions (in metric)

I have created an in-depth video reviewing the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, it’s possible applications, and problems – including workarounds & tuning tips.

Also check out our FAQ section for any questions you still might have. Read on for all the details and reasons behind these technology choices, and find out what you can and what you can’t do with the new Raspberry Pi family addition. You also get to keep all the accessories you already bought for the Pi Zero W: they are (mostly) compatible.

Having said that, at a price tag of $ 15 US (+ taxes), it’s a wonderful little product, useful for lots of projects (yay, retro-gaming!). YouTube is not a pleasant experience right now, and might crash Chromium. This seriously hampers the web browsing experience on the Zero 2 W. Unfortunately, the RAM has been kept at 512 MB due to technical limitations. It boots three times faster into Raspberry Pi OS, and is much snappier in general than the previous Pi Zero generation. This gives it about five times higher performance – using all four cores. The most important change is the powerful CPU upgrade: The Pi Zero 2 W uses the same BCM2710A1 SoC which is used in the Raspberry Pi 3. The new Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is a significant upgrade to the previous Pi Zero generation. Almost 4 million Pi Zeros have been sold up to date – it’s time for a refresh of the series!
